SBP Projects 4% GDP Growth for FY26, Ahead of Government Estimate

The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Governor Jameel Ahmad held an urgent press briefing on Friday, projecting GDP growth of around 4% for fiscal year 2026, higher than the government’s provisional estimate of 3.7%.

The projection suggests improved economic momentum despite lingering challenges in the export sector. The governor indicated that the outlook could be formally reflected in the upcoming Monetary Policy Statement later this month.

Meanwhile, economic engagement efforts continued at the policy level, with Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb meeting representatives of S&P Global Ratings. The discussions focused on Pakistan’s sovereign credit profile, including recent macroeconomic stability, fiscal consolidation measures, debt sustainability, external account resilience, and ongoing progress under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme.
