Pakistan’s Weekly SPI Falls 0.45%

Pakistan’s Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), which measures short-term inflation in essential consumer goods, declined 0.45% week-on-week (WoW) for the week ended July 9, 2026, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The SPI index eased to 352.66 from 354.24 recorded in the previous week. However, on a year-on-year (YoY) basis, the index remained elevated, rising 11.94% compared with 315.03 in the corresponding week last year.

The weekly decline was primarily driven by a sharp fall in the prices of several essential commodities. Tomato prices dropped 23.30% WoW, followed by Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), which declined 15.12%, while Pulse Moong prices eased 2.15% during the week.

On the other hand, prices of a few food items recorded an increase. Potato prices rose 3.94% WoW, chicken increased 3.70%, and onion prices gained 3.54% over the previous week.

Despite the weekly moderation, the SPI continues to post double-digit annual growth, indicating that inflationary pressures remain elevated compared with the same period last year.
